Vols’ quarterback, Joe Milton, returns to practice but head coach, Josh Heupel has yet to name a starter for the Tennessee’s matchup against Tennessee Tech this Saturday.
“We do not have a starter yet,” Heupel said on the SEC teleconference Wednesday. “(Milton) was out on the practice field today. I don’t know if he will be available on Saturday.”
Milton went 7-12 for 50 yards against Pitt last Saturday. Milton also rushed for 54 yards. Following his injury, Hendon Hooker went 15-21 with 188 yards. The Vols fell to Pitt, 41-34.
Hooker would seemingly be next in-line for the starting job as Harrison Bailey has yet to take the field this season but both QB’s share the No.2 spot on the Vols’ depth chart.
“Hendon, just where we were in the course of practice and what we were doing offensively, I felt like it was right time for him to be the guy to go in the football game.” Heupel said.
Despite not taking the field yet as a Vol this year, the program still places a lot value on Bailey moving forward.
“Harrison is smart, competitive, plays for his teammates, pushes them in a positive way,” Heupel said. “He’s a good leader inside our team. He is on our leadership council. He prepares the right way, too.”
The Vols take on Tennessee-Tech Saturday before moving onto seven consecutive SEC matchups. Tennessee-Tech most recently went down against Furman. 26-0.
