Vols’ fans got what they wanted out of their matchup with a 56-0 win over Tennessee-Tech.
Hendon Hooker tallied 3 touchdowns and 199 yards. Harrison Bailey briefly checked into the contest and recorded 16 passing yards with an eight-yard rushing touchdown.
“It was a pretty good showing,” Hooker said. “I have to clean up some things in my intermediate game.”
The Vols’ defense also displayed great strength with four interceptions and only allowed 179 yards of Tenn-Tech offense. The Vols also cycled through all three Tenn-Tech QB’s.
“You can’t turn the ball over the way we did.” Tenn-Tech head coach Dewayne Alexander said. “It’s something we have done three games in a row, turned the football over in our territory. Giving any team a short field is going to be tough,”
The Vols move to 2-1 on the season and this game serves as the last before seven consecutive SEC matchups, starting with Florida—who nearly took down Alabama—this Saturday.
‘The level of competition steps up next week,” Vols head coach Josh Heupel said. “Our players are excited about that. I’ll transition to the following week pretty quick. I hope our players can do that.”
A starting quarterback has yet to be named for Tennessee’s matchup against the Gators.
