With the Georgia Bulldogs’ defeat of the Alabama Crimson Tide during Monday’s National Championship Game, a 41-year championship drought ended for the Dawgs as they won 33-18.
It was a month ago that Alabama claimed victory over Georgia in the SEC Championship Game and many were weighing the Nick Saban factor into the game this time around so many were burned after putting their faith in Kirby Smart’s squad last time around.
Here are the three main reasons Georgia was able to find success and finally defeat Alabama on Monday’s National Title Game…
- Pressuring Alabama QB Bryce Young… Georgia wasn’t able to record a sack in the SEC Championship Game but this time around the Dawgs were able to get home four times and force Young into two interceptions, one of which was the Championship dagger as Kelee Ringo took it 79 yards the other way for a touchdown.
- Defense forcing field goals… The Crimson Tide put together a lengthy opening game drive that resulted in just a field goal, which was a big win for the UGA defense which felt embarrassed after the SEC Championship Game. In total, Bama was able to score just one touchdown the entire evening while forcing five field-goal attempts with one being blocked.
- Balance on offense and the mailman delivered… The Georgia Bulldogs ran the ball 30 times and threw it 26, that is a recipe for success for UGA and then Stetson Bennett was not extremely dynamic but he stood in and made some big throws when they needed to be made.
