Grading out the 2021 Tennessee Titans Season

The Tennessee Titans finished the season 12-6 and an AFC Divisional Round exit at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals at Nissan Stadium. It was, by all accounts, a less than stellar finish for a team who captured the AFC South Division crown, locked up the No. 1 seed in the AFC, and was getting their best offensive player back for the start of what was supposed to be a more lengthy postseason run.

However, that was not to be as Ryan Tannehill threw three interceptions and the offensive playcalling left many to wonder, what could have been…

So, how would you grade this 2021 Tennessee Titans season? Here was my take earlier from today during my show-The Word With G

It’s really a difficult thing to measure, this Titans season, based on several factors that must be considered.

It would be extremely simple to say, they didn’t win a home playoff game as the AFC’s No. 1 seed, and didn’t make it to at least the AFC Championship therefore the season was an abject failure and they can’t receive anything higher than a D or a C.

Granted, the way the season ended was extremely disappointing as Tennessee was just beginning to get healthy and looking poised for a deeper postseason run. However, if we consider the regular season in this equation this season amounts to a B or at the very least a B-. You look back at all the team had to overcome, a terrible start from their young and mostly inexperienced secondary, injuries along the offensive line, their best offensive player Derrick Henry missed nine regular-season games, A.J. Brown missed four games, Julio Jones wasn’t what he once was dealing with hamstring injuries which hamstrung his performance on the field, see what I did there.

Despite all of the obstacles they had to overcome this season they were able to thrive during the very difficult portion of their schedule where they had to face teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Rams, and New Orleans Saints all in a row. The titans won every single one of those games and despite losing to teams like the Houston Texans and New York Jets they were STILL able to clinch the AFC’s No. 1 seed.

Regardless of their loss in the Divisional Round I’d still give them a B or B-. What would you give them?
