The Braves have acquired veteran right-hand reliever Anthony Swarzak from the Mariners in exchange for left-hander Jesse Biddle and right-hander Arodys Vizcaino.
Atlanta will be responsible for paying roughly two-thirds of the $5,677,419 Swarzak is owed in salary this season.
Vizcaino started this season as Atlanta’s closer before undergoing season-ending surgery on his right shoulder on April 17. His replacement, A.J. Minter, has struggled mightily and was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett earlier this month.
Biddle was also designated for assignment after failing to build off his success from 2018, when he posted a 6-1 record and a 3.11 ERA.
So far in 2019, Swarzak hasn’t been much better. He owns a 5.27 ERA and three saves in six chances over 13⅔ innings with Seattle. The Braves will serve as the 33-year-old Swarzak’s eighth team in his 10-year career.
