The Baylor Red Raiders baseball team checked in with the No. 12 overall ranking in the latest Xcellent 25 rankings by MaxPreps.

The Red Raiders enter the 2020 season as one of the most storied and successful programs in the Chattanooga area. The four-time state champion, 21-time region champion and 13-time district champion won back-to-back state titles in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, posting a 51-12 overall record and a 29-7 record in district play over the two state championship seasons.

Baylor is led by junior shortstop Daniel Corona. The Wake Forest commit is one of the top players in his graduating class, possessing a smooth stroke from the left side of the plate. The Brooklyn, New York native was selected as one of the top 80 baseball players in the junior class by USA Baseball during the offseason and the shortstop is all over the radar of MLB scouts as a 16-year old.

Baylor’s roster also boasts three other Division I pledges. Senior Gehrig Ebel (Virginia Tech) along with juniors Cooper Kinney (South Carolina) and Vytas Valincius (South Carolina) are vital parts to the Red Raiders success on the diamond over the past few years.

The Red Raiders are accompanied by Farragut (No. 11 overall) as the only schools from the volunteer state on the list. Baylor will open their season on Monday, Mar. 9 when they travel to Grace Christian Academy in Knoxville. First pitch for the 2020 opener is set for 6:30 p.m.
