A pair of talented baseball prospects from the northwest corner of the Peach State lead their home state Georgia Bulldogs baseball team past in-state rival Georgia Tech 12-0.
UGA starting pitcher Cole Wilcox, a 2018 graduate of Heritage High School, recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts over seven innings of work in the winning effort. Wilcox scattered three hits, no runs and retired fourteen straight Yellow Jackets’ hitters through the fifth inning. The former Heritage General baseball star is a projected first round draft pick in June’s first-year player draft.
All nine hitters in UGA’s starting lineup recorded at least hit on Saturday, including Gordon Lee alum Tucker Bradley. His third inning home run was the outfielder’s second in as many days, giving him six on the year, which lead the Southeastern Conference. He also leads the team in batting average (.419) and is tied for first in stolen bases (6). The former Trojan has reached base safely in all of Georgia’s 11 games this season.
Gordon Lee graduate Chaney Rogers and Christian Heritage alum Darryn Pasqua are the other two northwest Georgia natives on the UGA baseball roster. Rogers, a first baseman for the Dawgs, has made seven starts this season and is hitting .333 in 24 at-bats this season. The right-hander Pasqua appeared in two games for Georgia. He’s thrown 1.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits.
The win clinches the season series over No. 17 Georgia Tech. The No. 4 Bulldogs will play the series finale tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
