Former Ole Miss quarterback Jordan Ta’amu has signed with the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Ta’amu served as the signal caller for the XFL’s Saint Louis BattleHawks.
The Pearl City, Hawaii native is the second player from the rebooted XFL to sign an NFL contract. Houston Roughnecks quarterback P.J. Walker signed with the Carolina Panthers on Monday, just hours before Ta’amu inked a deal with the Chiefs.
As quarterback of the BattleHawks, Ta’amu threw for 1,050 yards and 12 touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes. His passing touchdowns and completion percentage led the league through five games. He also carried the ball 41 times for 217 yards and a touchdown. His 5.3 rushing yards per carry were tops in the league.
After spending two years at New Mexico Military College Ta’amu took the reigns of former Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke’s offense during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He threw for 5,600 yards and 30 touchdowns while rushing for 507 yards and ten touchdowns as a starter. He set a program record for 400-yard passing games with four and tied Chad Kelly’s mark with 12 300-yard passing games.
He received an invite to the NFL Combine after his college days were over and went to training camp with the Houston Texans before being released by the organization prior to the start of last season. Ta’amu was 7-for-12 for 50 yards and an interception during the preseason.
