The Atlanta Braves announced the signing of fan-favorite Charlie Culberson to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. The utility-man was not tendered by the Braves earlier this month, but wasn’t gone for long.
Culberson has hit .267/.316/.457 in two seasons with the Braves. He’s proven to be a reliable fill-in option for Atlanta. Culberson was thrust into the lineup during the National League Division Series while shortstop Dansby Swanson was battling injury.
Charlie Culberson is a Georgia native, growing up in Calhoun. The 30-year-old utility-man sustained multiple facial fractures during an at bat in September, which he is still recovering from.
His clutch plays throughout his time in Atlanta earned him the nickname “Charlie Clutch”. Culberson will look to earn a spot on Atlanta’s 26-man roster during spring training.
