Not long after Georgia offensive lineman Cade Mays entered the transfer portal, SEC East rival Tennessee came calling. Mays will be a Vol next season, joining his brother, Cooper, on Rocky Top.
Cade Mays played all 14 games for the Dawgs this season, while playing every offensive line position for Georgia,. The Knoxville native recorded a start at four different offensive line positions in 2019. As a freshman, Cade played in 11 of 14 games and was named to the SEC All-Freshman team by the league’s coaches.
Mays was verbally committed to Tennessee in high school, but backed out of his commitment after the Vols fired Butch Jones. He would then choose the Bulldogs after former offensive line coach Sam Pittman lured him to Athens. ESPN had Mays ranked as the No. 25 overall player and No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee during the 2018 recruiting cycle.
Cade Mays will bring versatility to the Vols’ trenches. The 6-foot-6, 318 pounder has playing experience at all five offensive line positions, and will be an asset to a young Tennessee line. Due to the rules and regulations of the NCAA and SEC, Mays will have to sit out the 2020 season, according to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach.
