UGA officials announced Tuesday that the Dawgs will open their 2021 season with Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers.

Georgia was scheduled to play San Jose State, UAB, Charleston Southern and Georgia Tech as their non-conference opponents in 2021. Clemson will be substituted for San Jose State, but UGA will still have to pay San Jose the guaranteed $1.8 million that was agreed on when the game was scheduled. The showdown will take place inside of Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers.

The Dawgs lead the all-time series against Clemson 42-18-4 and the 2021 game will be Georgia’s first against the Tigers since 2014, a game Georgia won 45-21 between the hedges. Georgia split the home-and-home with Clemson in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. The Tigers pulled off a 38-35 victory inside Death Valley. The two teams have scheduled to meet five more times in the coming years. The schools previously agreed to play each other Aug. 31, 2004 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. They also have two separate home-and-home arrangements scheduled for the 2029-2030 and 2033-2034 seasons.
